“Bribing” to Attend P.D. – Why?

Is this necessary, Ralphie?

Is this necessary, Ralphie?

Receiving inservice credits and/or graduate credits are one thing. Appropriate? Absolutely!

Sadly, there will always be those who sign up for sessions solely for the “giveaways”, with no other motives or intentions for further intent with regard to implementation.

That begs the question:

For whom are they attending the sessions: the students’ benefit or their own?

One educator emailed to ask if they were too late in signing up for a session to receive the “free resources” that attendees were promised if they enrolled by the cut-off date, and if not, this individual would withdraw from the class. That doesn’t leave much room for interpretation of motive, does it? For those who did sign up by the cut-off date and who do receive the incentives:

  • Will educators be following through by using the incentive, which has a direct correlation to the inservice topic?
  • Will educators be sharing knowledge gained in the classroom this year?
  • Will lessons be conducted in such a manner that students can interact with the resources in a hands-on manner, if at all practical?

Food for thought, wouldn’t you agree, Ralphie?
